Free Wireless Internet Access

Wi-Fi computer networking technology allows computers and PDAs to send and receive Internet data via a wireless network. These Locations have installed IEEE 802.11b Wireless Standard networks with “access points” you can use. So now, if your laptop is Wi-Fi enabled, you can connect to the Internet wirelessly while you’re at dining at the restaurants.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
about free high-speed Internet access at these locations

Is there an access fee?

No. We are providing this service free of charge to its customers, however we are limiting access to 2 hours per day. Customers must have their own equipment, wireless card and software.

Is the network secure?

Our Wi-Fi access is as secure as any open public access network like public telephones and dial-up Internet accounts. It’s always a good idea to make sure you are on an SSL-encrypted web page prior to sending or receiving confidential data.

When you initially access our network, you are presented with a login box. Please make sure you agree to the terms and conditions of usage, link at bottom of page, prior to creating an account.

Is there a support number to call if there’s a problem with the network?

No.

For issues relating to your Wi-Fi card and its configuration software, consult your owner’s manual or contact your manufacturer’s support web site and/or customer support number directly.

Bennett Enterprises reserves the right to monitor Wi-Fi activity, filter content and otherwise control or prohibit usage.

If you find that a site is blocked in error, please send an email to the address listed on the page to submit your request for inclusion.

EQUIPMENT

What equipment do I need to access the network?

You need a laptop or notebook computer, or a personal digital assistant (PDA) equipped with a standard Internet browser and a Wi-Fi compliant (802.11b/802.11g) wireless Ethernet card. In most cases, the card will be installed in the PCMCIA slot on the side of the computer and will be loaded with the appropriate software.

Note: Some newer laptops have built-in Wi-Fi capability, in which case the operating system alerts the user to the presence of an available Wi-Fi network when its browser is on.

I use a Mac instead of a Windows-based machine. Can I still use the service?

Yes! All you need is an Airport card or other 802.11b/802.11g compatible wireless card and the appropriate software installed.

Where can I buy a wireless card?

Wi-Fi 802.11b/802.11g wireless network cards are available from most major electronics retailers in-store or online. Be sure to read installation instructions before loading the software or installing the wireless card.

CONNECTING

How do I connect to the network?

Open your web browser. You should see a Bennett Enterprises login page. After reviewing our Terms of Use agreement, create an account using your email address.  After your account has been created, you should see a window with time left and your browser should be redirected to the Bennett Enterprises webpage.

Once you create and validate your account, it is useable at each of our locations offering wireless access.

I keep having to login...what’s wrong?

Have you completed your registration?  Check your email account and click the link in the validation email.

Did you close the small window that opened when you logged in?  Minimize the window instead of closing it.

My web browser did not display any pages...what’s wrong?

Here are some things to check if you’re having difficulty.

1. Make sure the Location is offering Wi-Fi.

2. Set your SSID to BIGBOY or THEBREWHOUSE (depending on your location).
Refer to your Wi-Fi card instructions for details and make sure your software is running when you attempt to set your SSID. In many cases, setting the SSID to ANY will also work and will permit connection to any available Wi-Fi network. (Some customers find this a very practical SSID setting, since they don’t have to set a different SSID for each wireless network they use). Note: Wi-Fi software terms for SSID may vary. ESSID, Network Name, Wireless Network Name and Network Identifier are all terms for SSID.

3. Make sure that WEP Encryption is DISABLED (or OFF).

4. Check that the connection is configured for INFRASTRUCTURE mode. (Ad-Hoc mode will not work).

5. If you made any changes in steps 2 through 4 above, RESTART (or REBOOT) your computer and web browser.
